We’ve engaged with more than 280 businesses

How we’ve supported digital innovation

To date we‘ve engaged with more than 280 organisations, charities, businesses and social enterprises across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Our Knowledge Exchange Team Emma Seymour and James Rowberry, work closely with Cornwall’s business sector, helping to investigate how research, development and innovation support could help to bring ideas to life.

Bringing 38 new products and services to life

So far we’ve helped to realise 38 new products, services and processes. Projects have ranged across the arts, entertainment, recreation and education, to health, communication, technology and manufacturing.

Every project is unique and so is our support

While all of our work is connected to health, wellbeing and digital technologies, no two projects are ever the same.

Emma said: “We’re lucky to collaborate with different enterprises who have so many interesting ideas. One of our most popular options for support is our collaborative research schemes, where our research experts help enterprises realise their digital innovations to improve health and wellbeing, while measuring impact in the real world. We also offer access to data sets and have different grants on offer.”

Offering access to networks and events

The South West Academic Health Science Network (SWAHSN) became a Smartline partner in 2020, helping us to offer closer access to experts in the health and care sector. Together we are bringing unique opportunities for businesses to attend events and network within the sector, to help spread and scale innovative ideas.

James said: “We run a range of events in partnership with SWAHSN designed for people who are new to the sector or already established. We also run business-led events and due to popular demand, our, Social Return on Investment Workshop will be returning. This event supports businesses to understand their social value and calculate their social return on investment.”

James helps one of our event attendees to trial new virtual reality technology.
